Wine Racks

In order to serve and enjoy wine properly, there are a few things to keep on hand. In addition to beautiful wine racks to store the selections attractively, people who enjoy wine also need ways to open, prepare and serve the wine properly. There are several serveware items that can make this endeavor more enjoyable.

A wine should look good in the kitchen or dining area where it is kept. Wooden wine racks and metal racks are both available to match the decor of most any room. Some sit on the countertop, while others can be mounted on the wall or freestanding on the floor. Determine how many bottles will be kept around regularly and where the ideal place to store multiple bottles might be before selecting the rack. Look for selections by Wine Enthusiast and others.

The next investment should be a set of wine glasses. There are different shapes of glasses designed to serve each variety of wine. Unless the same variety of wine is always served, it's a good idea to invest in a set that includes glasses for serving Pinot noir, chardonnay, Cabernet and champagne.

To open the wines, corkscrews are necessary. Some corkscrews also include a foil cutter, and foil cutters are also sold separately. After the wine is opened and aerated, it's a good idea to have a bottle stopper on hand to seal the wine for the evening. Most wines will keep for several days if adequately sealed with a bottle stopper.

After wine is opened, it needs to sit half an hour or more, unless you're prepared with an aerator. Wine aerators speed the process, taking just a couple of minutes to fully aerate the wine. This is the perfect thing to have on hand when unexpected company arrives or when someone comes home with excellent news to celebrate.

Wine chillers are great for serving white wines, especially when the wine must sit out for several hours until dinner or drinks are served. These also make attractive additions to a table setting or buffet. If white wines are the normal fare, it's a good idea to keep a wine cellar near the wine racks, so all of the wines are always ready to be served at a moment's notice.
